Individuals with disabilities are a unique and beautiful facet of our world.
Through working with these wonderful people I have developed a deep love and appreciation for capturing the life and times of all individuals with disabilities.
Part of my mission is to bring a greater awareness to this community through photography. My goal is to offer them the opportunity to have their photo taken by someone who has the patience, understanding, and love to truly capture each unique characteristic of their incredible lives.
We all have a story to tell, and my dream is to help give them a voice to share their story with the world.
Humanitarian WORK
Through partnering with various organizations, I’ve been privileged to experience the dynamic power of the disabilities community worldwide.
The strength and beauty witnessed within the places we’ve visited has given new insight to the formidable spirit of individuals with disabilities, and has created an opportunity to highlight the diversity of this global family.
Community events
Photographing the overflowing love of the disabilities community is one of the greatest opportunities I’ve had!
Local events and nationally recognized organizations alike provide space for people to gather and celebrate together.
From the National Down Syndrome Society Buddy Walk in New York City, to the Utah Miss Amazing Amplify Event, I have been able to capture the indelible spirit of this community.
School portraits
Whether in a preschool or day program setting, school photos can be daunting for individuals with disabilities. An unknown person wants them to sit still, look at the camera, smile, and then move along. These experiences often result in added stress and cheesy smiles that don’t accurately portray the person in the photo.
My approach is one where the time is taken to help each person feel comfortable. Where head on, forced smiles aren’t the goal. The real goal is a stunning portrait filled with their unique personality.
Fine Art portrait days
The simplicity of a fine art portrait creates a canvas for the individual being photographed to shine. Simple backgrounds and natural lighting highlight the subject in a way that brings their personality and humanity to the forefront of the photo.
My approach to these fine art portraits is to create a relaxed atmosphere where stories are shared, relationships are formed, and the camera becomes an afterthought. The result is a collection of timeless portraits showcasing each person’s distinctive identity.
These portraits can be used for professional headshots, campaigns highlighting specific disabilities, or updating family albums and displays.
Sports events
The perfect snapshot of a buzzer beater and the victorious face of a champion immortalizes the love of the game.
At school dances, a sparkling gown or a sharp suit can make anyone feel like royalty.
Photographing sporting and school events, such as prom or other dances, has given me a view into how this community is bursting with fun!
Posed or candid, these photos don’t do justice to the sheer joy radiating from each person.
